As a dad who recently rediscovered my passion for sports card collecting, I quickly realized something was missing -- or at least severely lacking -- in the hobby landscape. That's why I created Family Friendly Cards, a space where families can enjoy collecting together without the pressures and pitfalls often found on live breaks and streams. If you'll allow me a moment, let me share our story and vision with you.
About a year and a half ago, I dove back into the world of sports cards. What started as a renewed personal interest in one of my favorite childhood hobbies quickly became something my entire family began to enjoy. My three boys caught the bug, and even my wife has joined in on the fun from time to time (she enjoys collecting Catfish Hunter cards as a joke from the movie Grumpier Old Men). I fondly recall giving each of my sons a big box of cards of their favorite players last Christmas that I gradually purchased throughout the year, watching their eyes light up with excitement.
As I explored the card collecting scene, I encountered a problem. Many popular platforms for buying and trading cards weren't suitable for young audiences. Whether it was inappropriate language, aggressive sales tactics, or simply an unwelcoming atmosphere for newcomers, I couldn't comfortably share these experiences with my kids.
That's when the idea for Family Friendly Cards was born. I wanted to create a space that:
Family Friendly Cards gives me a unique opportunity to combine my passion for sports cards with living out my Catholic faith. By creating a wholesome environment for families and giving back to the community, we're putting our values into action. It's not just about the cards; it's about fostering connections and making a positive impact.
At Family Friendly Cards, we're in this with you. We're not afraid to make mistakes and learn alongside our community. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out, we're here to support you. And along the way, we'll explore various aspects of the hobby together, from understanding different card sets to navigating the grading process.
Our vision extends beyond just buying and selling cards. We aim to:
The guiding principle behind Family Friendly Cards comes from Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it." This verse inspires us to create an environment where parents can share their passion for collecting with their children, instilling values of integrity, stewardship, and community along the way.
If you're looking for a place where you can share your love of sports cards with your kids without worrying about content or high-pressure sales, we invite you to join the Family Friendly Cards community. Together, we can rediscover the pure joy of collecting and create lasting memories with our loved ones.
